Active Health Portland is expanding to give families and workers more opportunities to see their doctor.

Active Health Portland is now running one evening session per week in addition to the usual Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.00pm opening hours. Please contact Reception on (03) 5522 1200 for further information.

Practice manager Kat Warner said the expansion was in response to community need and would give people more flexible opportunities to go to the doctor.

"We are catering for people who work full time during business hours, are shift workers or have other commitments meaning they can’t get away during the day to see a doctor."

"The additional times can also help students and bus travellers who might need to access a doctor out of hours. The whole family could attend at the same time," Ms Warner said.

Active Health Portland is the only clinic in south-west Victoria developed under the GP Super Clinic program which aims to help ease chronic health conditions.

As part of its holistic and preventative approach, Active Health Portland is being proactive in trying to help the community to address these health problems.

"Being available at different times to meet the varied needs of local people and those from outlying regions is part of that process," Ms Warner said.

Evening sessions have attracted good early bookings and an additional evening would be considered if there was enough demand.

Active Health Portland provides a one-stop health shop. It is serviced by General Practioners and offers a wide variety of allied health services, including practice nurse, exercise physiology, podiatry, dietetics, diabetes educator, psychology, mental health nurse, speech pathology, community health nurse, youth worker/counsellor and health promotion officers.
