All Staff Update: My Aged Care

Friday, 20 October 2017
An update of new procedures in place for older people and current clients accessing subsidised aged care services.

Dear All Staff,

As of 1 October 2017, the Australian Government has made changes to the way older people and our current clients access subsidised aged care services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and community nursing.

These changes apply to people aged 65 years or older and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years or older.

What are the changes?

Eligible older people, including our current clients, will now be required to register with My Aged Care to access subsidised aged care services.

What is My Aged Care?

My Aged Care is an Australian Government website and phone line to help older people find out what subsidised aged care services may be available to them.

Why is this happening?

The Australian Government provides funding to Otway Health so that we can provide eligible older people (including our current clients), with subsidised aged care services. To continue to provide subsidised services, we are now mandated to follow the Government’s new directive.

What does this mean?

Otway Health will no longer be able to make appointments for any new subsidised services for eligible older people and our current client’s on their behalf, unless we have received a referral from My Aged Care. Eligible older people and current clients must be registered with My Aged Care to receive any subsidised services from us from now on.

How do older people and our clients register with My Aged Care?

To register with My Aged Care, eligible older people and our current clients must call 1800 200 422 or go to the website at:
