We’ve got a heap planned. First up is the week-long exhibition of THE DREAMERS. It comprises a series of portrait photographs and reflections that reveal what really matters at the end of life. Visual artist and photographer Pippa Wischer spoke to 40 people with a life-limiting illness about life, death and dreams. This deeply moving installation, generously sponsored by Palliative Care Victoria, will be on display in the foyer of our Warrnambool Base Hospital from tomorrow evening. (For more info see Events). We invite you to explore THE DREAMERS and through their honest stories, consider your own thoughts on these deeper questions of life, and what matters most to you.
On Monday we’ve got a self-care session on meditation and relaxation for our volunteers and patients, the launch of our region-first CARER COMPANION publication, and the launch of our Skipton area recruitment drive for palliative care volunteers.
Tuesday sees our Camperdown David Newman Adult Day Centre acknowledging the wonderful work of their volunteers with morning tea. (Call DNC coordinator Maureen Crameri on 5593 7364 for more info.)
On Wednesday our Volunteer Services coordinator Julie Evans and our South West Regional Palliative Care Team nurse consultant coordinator Andrea Janes are taking a busload of volunteers to Palliative Care Victoria’s 2018 Volunteer Conference in Melbourne. The theme’s Supporting people to live, die and grieve well. And, they’ll be in the audience when Andrea takes centre stage to present on the success of our 2017 palliative care volunteers recruitment drive which saw to an expansion of our volunteer services to patients and their families throughout Moyne and Corangamite. At 7pm, back in Warrnambool, there’s a free movie night at the Lighthouse Theatre.
Thursday there’s a volunteers’ afternoon tea at Warrnambool Community Health, and Friday there’s a bus trip to Tower Hill for staff and patients in our South West Regional Palliative Care program.
Sunday is our annual Remembrance Ceremony for families and friends who’ve lost loved ones over the past 12 months. There’s also a Flagstaff Hill open day for volunteers, complete with a free BBQ lunch. (For more info on the volunteer-related events call Julie on 5564 4116. For more info on the palliative care-related events call Andrea on 5564 4179.)
THANK YOU to every one of our 315 registered volunteers working alongside us at our Warrnambool, Macarthur, Lismore and Camperdown campuses. We hope you the best week ever.
