You’ll know the name. JULIE STAFFORD sold 2.2 million copies of her Taste of life cookbooks worldwide and changed a generation’s eating habits along the way. Now she’s written an unexpected love story. At 53, when her husband Bruce lost his cancer battle, she took a brave journey - determined not to be defined by her past. The Seagull is a courageous memoir of love and loss, of finding new directions in lands far away from the safety and comforts of home. It will make you question every small detail of your own life.
The Seagull is a story for everyone. It reminds us that physical age does not define who we are or who we can become.
Tickets are $25. There’s only 90 of them. And they include a complementary glass of bubbles. They’re on sale NOW at our Cashier Desk in the foyer of our Warrnambool Base Hospital.
The proceeds will go towards a $15,000 Special Care Nursery-Royal Children’s Hospital Telemedicine link.
In 2013 our Emergency Department was the first in Victoria to have a 24/7 telemedicine (video) connection with the Royal Children’s Hospital Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (PETS). This was generously financed by a donation from the Aussie Farmers Foundation.
We now want the same potentially lifesaving initiative in the resuscitation bay of our Neonatal Special Care Nursery with a telemedicine link between us and the Royal Children’s Neonatal Emergency Transport Service (NETS).
Our eight-pod Special Care Nursery cares for the southwest region’s most gravely ill newborns including babies about to be aired to, or just aired from, lifesaving surgery in Melbourne. In the two to three hours it can take the NETS to arrive, this telemedicine link will provide additional, on-the-spot, highly specialised resuscitation expertise for our clinicians.
Needless to say, we want to make as much money as possible at this after-work event to make sure we have this system sooner rather than later – which is why:

This fundraiser for our Special Care Nursery is proudly sponsored by ACE Radio, Lady Bay Resort, Northpoint Liquor and Warrnambool Picture Framing & Loft Gallery. To be held in our Warrnambool Base Hospital ACE Radio Lecture Theatre at 5.30pm on May 30, it’ll be a great way to wrap up the end of the work-week.
Guests must be seated by 6pm. After Julie’s talk (which will go for about an hour) she’ll sign books for anyone who buys them.
