Influenza (commonly known as the flu) is caused by a virus that mainly spreads from person to person through the air by coughing, sneezing or talking, and by touching a person’s hands, surfaces or objects.
Flu can cause mild to severe illness, complications such as pneumonia and bronchitis and can make some underlying medical conditions worse.
That’s why it’s a good idea to get vaccinated. And every year. Not just every now and then. Viruses circulating in the community continually change and last year’s vaccine, for example, won’t guarantee immunity against this year’s new flu versions.
